Generating air source heat pump leads is time consuming, not to mention costly.
Today, we’ll discuss the most popular ways to generate quotes for heat pump installers including:
We’re a nationwide installer and run a MCS Umbrella network for those installers that don’t have MCS Accreditation. Generate leads via your customer base, and we’ll take care of anything MCS related. For MCS registered engineers, we offer a nationwide installer network; work alongside Dwellow to service the heat pump jobs we generate in your local area.

You don’t have to be MCS accredited in order to install heat pumps. However, without MCS certification, it’s unlikely you’ll get much work.
Why? The simple answer is, only installations that have an MCS certificate will be eligible for heat pump grants.
The most popular heat pump grant? The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). Without offering your customer an MCS certificate, they’ll be losing out on up to £7,500 in funding.
Getting MCS accredited isn’t just time consuming, it’s expensive. Expect to pay over £1,000 in year 1 just to get set up, with ongoing fees each year thereafter (see MCS’s website here). However, there is an option to get heat pump installer work even if you don’t have accreditation; join an MCS Umbrella Network, like ours.
An MCS Umbrella is an installer (usually with nationwide coverage, like dwellow) that has MCS accreditation. They take on heat pump leads on behalf of installers that aren’t MCS registered.
Whilst the installer generating the heat pump lead would still complete the profitable installation, a company like dwellow will handle all aspects of the job that cause headaches. This includes the likes of:
In summary, this leaves the installer to focus on the installation!Speak to our MCS Umbrella team by using our contact form here, or by calling us on 0330 822 2795.
Many companies (including dwellow) will filter heat pump installation jobs through to installers that work within their MCS Umbrella. You’ll be able to pick up installation jobs in your local area, without paying for marketing, or, worthless “job leads” that don’t convert.
So, if you’re not MCS registered and not generating a big volume of heat pump leads, we’ll be able to get you work.
On the flip-side, we also work with a network of MCS accredited installers. If you have accreditation but need extra work, we can help in that respect too.
Anyone that runs a business knows that customer acquisition is one of the most time consuming and costly aspects of operating. Generating one simple heat pump lead (that might not actually turn into a paying customer) could cost you hours in marketing efforts and design work, not to mention advertising costs well into the £100s. To be visible online, you need a website, online reviews, a Google My Business listing and implement a range of SEO tactics.
But, if you’re already getting clicks to your site, you need to focus on converting those clicks to heat pump leads.
As they say…traffic for vanity, installations for sanity…
Basically, focusing on JUST building up traffic to your website is aimless.
You can have more than one CTA that focuses on a different goal.
As an example, we’ve got this CTA on that focuses on pushing visitors towards our clickable heat pump lead form:
But, that’s not the only CTA on the page, as not everyone is ready to jump in and get a quote right away. There’s a good chance they’ve got a few questions…
For that reason, we’ve also got CTAs that push visitors towards phone and email, such as this one:
In summary, reduce clutter and add clear calls to action throughout your website.
Getting visitors to your website isn’t easy, and there’s a good reason for that. Check out this graphic from the Heat Pump Association.
They expect to see demand for / actual number of heat pump installers in the UK to hit around 50,000 by 2030. That’s nearly 5x the amount of installers there are today...
…and pretty much every single one is going to have a website; that’s up to 50,000 competitors online incoming! So, how can you be visible online, as well as increase conversions?
Reviews have a two-fold benefit.
If a customer is already interested in using your services, there’s a good chance they’ll check out online reviews. If you don’t have any Facebook, Google, Yelp or Trustpilot reviews, it’s likely that rings alarm bells, and they’ll look elsewhere.
However, leading onto Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) that we’ll briefly mention below, reviews are also a contributing factor to your rankings and overall visibility in Google.Put simply, focusing on getting online reviews for your business is worthwhile.
SEO is split into two sections:
The big problem here is that SEO is complex and time consuming.
For that reason, expect a professional agency to charge £750-£1,000 for any SEO work; not exactly cheap…
Social media platforms like Facebook can be the perfect place to generate heat pump leads, if you can craft original and inspiring posts.
However, just posting pictures of heat pumps…that’s unlikely to have the impact you need.
Like many marketing tactics, trying to gain organic clicks from social media platforms that are targeted and high converting, is extremely time consuming.
For ideas on increasing organic reach, check out this guide on Brand Watch.
Next we have PPC; which certainly isn’t for the faint-hearted.
PPC is a much more targeted way of advertising, given you can target based on exactly what people are searching, as well as where they are located.
Like SEO, it’s likely you’ll need to employ an expert to set up and maintain your ad account on a platform like Google AdWords; it’s expensive.
Alongside this you’ll also be paying on a cost per click (CPC) basis, so you really do need a high converting campaign.
So, how expensive is it going to be to get heat pump leads?
Using Google’s Keyword Planner, we can see estimates of between £2.23-£7.14 per click.
Taking the middle of this range at £4.69 per click and a conversion rate of 1%, you’d pay around £469 to get one heat pump lead.
The problem? That might not actually turn into a paying customer, but this method of marketing can be lucrative if you can get a high converting campaign established…
