Aira is a relatively new company, formed in 2022. Whilst there aren't many reviews online, the few there are, are reasonable. They have 4.3 stars from over 300 reviews on Trustpilot.
Their range is simple, an outdoor and indoor unit. Focusing on the outdoor unit they offer 6kW, 8kW and 12kW outputs. These heat pumps can provide up to 4.7 SCOP (seasonal coefficient of performance), meaning they're up to 470% efficient.
According to Aira's website, you'll be paying around £14,000 for a heat pump suitable for a 3-4 bedroom property. This is slightly more than the equivalent heat pump from the likes of Ideal Heating or Vaillant (under £12,000).
However, with the government's £7,500 Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant, an Aira air source heat pump is likely to cost in the region of £6,500.

Before forking out £1000s on an air source heat pump, it's worth determining if the brand you're looking at is actually any good.
So, is Aira a reputable heat pump brand?
They're a relatively new company, founded in 2022 and based out of Sweden. They offer a range of indoor and outdoor heat pumps, as well as solar panels.
Being such a new company, it’s hard to determine exactly how good the brand is, and how durable their heat pumps actually are.
If you’d prefer to purchase a heat pump from an established brand, we’ve listed our top 10 in our guide to the best heat pump brands here.
A great way to check if a heat pump brand is high quality, is by jumping over to Trustpilot.
Reviews for Aira Home over at Trustpilot are average, at 4.3 stars. However, they’re lacking overall volume of reviews, with just over 300 at time of writing.
Compare this to a company like Ideal Heating (featured in our guide to top heat pump reviews, and the 4 best heat pumps)...
Ideal Heating is considered to be one of the leading brands in the heat pump space. Not only do they have a higher star rating (4.8 versus 4.3), they have A LOT more reviews; over 50,000!
The rating we focus on most is the percentage of 5 star reviews a company gets. As you can see above, Aira sits at 75%, whereas Ideal Heating has a massive 90%.
Whilst Aira Home is quite obviously a reputable brand, we’d be more inclined to go with a brand that’s more established. Ideal Heating, Vaillant and Grant all offer some great options.

Aira Home produces both indoor and outdoor air source heat pump units. But in this review, we'll focus on the outdoor unit only.
First, we have noise levels. Heat pumps can be noisy, which can impact both you, and your neighbours.
Whilst the Aira Home Outdoor heat pump isn't "noisy", it's nowhere near as quiet as some of the best performing air source heat pumps on the market.
The Aira Home heat pump operates in the 56-57 dB range. That is comparable with the Vaillant Arotherm Plus (53-55dbs) and hte Ideal Logic Air (55dbs).
Efficiency wise, Aira is up there with the very best. This is partly thanks to the R290 refrigerant it uses.
Thanks to this refrigerant, the Air Home is A+++ rated, and has a SCOP (seasonal coefficient of performance) of 4.7 when operating at 35°C.
Essentially what this means, is that for every 1kWh of electricity it consumes, it can produce up to 4.7kWh of heat; it's up to 470% efficient. Now, with a retrofit of a property that has radiators it it unlikely you would be able to design the system to 35 degrees, but for a property with underfloor heating this could certainly be achievable.
If we compare that to a typical A-rated gas boiler, working at 92% efficiency, that's a SCOP of just 0.92.
We’ve got a detailed guide covering the most efficient air source heat pumps here.
The Aira Home Outdoor heat pump is available as a 6kW, 8kW or 12kW unit. That’s going to mean it’s suitable for the majority of small-medium sized properties.
However, determining what size heat pump you need isn’t exactly easy.
Dozens of variables affect the size unit you’ll need including:
To determine what size heat pump you need and which one’s the most suitable for your property:
Heat pumps are notoriously expensive.
So, how much should you expect to pay for an Aira heat pump, including installation?
According to Aira, you should expect to pay £6,500 for a unit suitable for a 3-4 bedroom.
This does sound cheap, but as you can see in the small print, that accounts for £7,500 in government funding.
When you get an air source heat pump installed in the UK, it’s likely you’re eligible for 0% VAT on materials and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant. This grant offers up to £7,500 in funding, meaning the Aira unit above would actually be £14,000 before applying this discount.
Another note is that no radiator upgrades are included. Air source heat pumps work best with large radiators, so it’s likely radiator upgrades would be needed for your heat pump to work efficiently. This is going to increase the overall installation cost.
For a quick cost comparison, we install the likes of the Vaillant aroTHERM Plus from £4,042.
The gross price here would be £11,542, but reduced to just over £4,000 thanks to government grants.

Whilst Aira reviews online aren't in the abundance of leading air source heat pump brands, and their prices are slightly higher, they do have one huge attribute; a long warranty.
The Aira Home Outdoor unit comes with a 15-year product and installation warranty as part of their "all-inclusive" plan.
As part of this they'll ensure:
Like most other gas boilers and heat pumps these days, the Aira Home is compatible with smart heating controls.
To make the most out of your Aira Home Outdoor air source heat pump, you'll want to use the Aira Home Energy App.
With this, you'll be able to:
Without specifics pertaining to how hard a heat pump works in its lifetime, it’s hard to pin-point how long it’s going to last.
Aira suggests the average heat pump lasts 10-15 years. Their warranty backs this up, as if it does fail before the 15-year estimate, they’ll be the ones footing the bill for it, not you!
